Exile Technologies - May 2024 / August 2024

Largely tasked with getting their flagship product ready for the upcoming show in August 2024. This included:

  • Creating numerous parts for product reliability improvements and failure proofing
  • Creating a 3D CAD model of all components and assembly
  • Creating exploded working drawings for the different subassemblies
  • Creating cable diagrams for cable manufacturers
  • Assembling initial prototype and creating initial cables
  • Producing small batches of product reliability improvement parts
CAD Model
Completed Spyder X assembly using SolidWorks.
Lower Cover
3D printed friction-fit cover to reduce exposed cables. The design was optimized for a clean and aesthetically pleasing look.
HCB Cover
3D printed snap-fit cover to reduce exposed cables. Experimented with different materials and print orientations to ensure strength with repeated use.
Motor Cover
3D printed slide-in-place cover to hide access hole necessary for the installation of the ball screw assembly.
Hose Clamp
Designed to reduce the risk of the pressure-sensing hose accidentally disconnecting from the sensor. Minimally invasive design.
Handle
Designed to allow ergonomic operation of the adjustable slider using one hand.

School Projects

ME470 Senior Design - Air Entrainment Reduction

Tasked by Sargent and Lundy to reduce air entrainment from vortices in pumps using objects placed in front of the inlet.

Vortex formation with a poor suppressor.
Critical Height
Critical height is the height at which a full vortex is formed. It was the main performance indicator of a reduction in air entrainment.
Tank Design
A test setup was created to allow for recirculation of water, pressure measurements, and a change in tank height.
Best Designs
Our team determined four different designs were optimal for air entrainment reduction. Each contained its own benefits.

Over 50 designs were tested, including both industry standard and personal ideas.

ME471 Finite Element Analysis - Matlab

Created a 2D plain strain FEA solver using Matlab. Also ran FEA analysis on different structures in Abaqus.

ME370 Automated Food Slicer

Tasked with creating a food slicer without using a rotary cutting movement.

Personal Projects

RP42

In partnership with Jeremy Leicht, we are creating an STM-32 based Free42 implementation. The design and software are based on the classic HP-42s using RPN.
